Euro-MRX consortium: a unique collaboration

The Euro-MRX consortium is a collaboration of six institutes. The consortium members have been doing research into mental retardation for a number of years, but the current focus of activities is on the Euro-MRX project. This project is a joint effort of the consortium and several collaborating institutes.

The consortium was established with the goal of identifying genes involved in X-linked mental retardation (MRX). The efforts of the consortium have resulted in a collection of clinical and molecular data of more than 600 well characterized families. Moreover, 16 of the 25 genes known to be causally involved in MRX were identified by, or in collaboration with, the consortium.

The strength of the collaboration lies in the exchange of knowledge and materials between the participiants and third party researchers. This exchange is expected to significantly decrease the time needed to reach the outlined goals for the Euro-MRX project (see Research Program).
